Join The Queer Choir for an evening of community singing! This fall season we’re returning to our roots. We will hold a Community Open Sing on the second Friday of each month through December.
Our first event is on Friday, September 13th at 6:00 pm
Community Open Sing is an accessible, low-commitment, all levels, monthly event open to queer and trans people. We’ll teach and learn rounds and songs with simple, fun, and beautiful harmonies.
WHEN: Please arrive for snacks and socializing from 6:00-7:00 pm. Singing will begin promptly at 7:00 and go until 8:30 pm.
WHERE: St. Paul Lutheran Church, Recreation Room on the ground floor (ADA accessible)
1658 Excelsior Ave, Oakland, CA (corner of Woodruff Ave and Excelsior Ave) Entrance to rec room on Woodruff Ave. Street Parking.
ACCESSIBILITY: This is a wheelchair-accessible space. There is a ramp that leads to the rec room of St. Paul Lutheran Church on Woodruff Avenue. The accessible bathroom is on the same floor.
This is a fragrance-free event. Please refrain from wearing scented products like scented deodorants, perfumes, hair products, clothing laundered with scented detergent, etc. to support those with chemical sensitivities.
COVID: Community Sing is a masks required event. All participants must wear over-the-head N95 masks, rather than ear loop masks. Please bring your own mask. Participants are responsible for making sure their masks fit securely on their faces. We will have some available at the door.
We ask that participants not attend the event if they have a positive infection or when experiencing any known symptoms of COVID-19 or within seven days of known exposure to a person with confirmed COVID-19 infection. We'll be checking folks in at the door and asking folks to sign a COVID-19 agreement in order to uphold a commitment to co-creating a safer, in-person, disability justice centered space. The agreement will state that folks have no known symptoms and are not positive for COVID-19, have a well-fitting N95 mask, and will remain masked at all times in our indoor space.
The space will have open windows, a cross breeze, and multiple HEPA air filters. Personal portable air filters are welcome. We'll continue to monitor the waste water levels in our area and will reschedule the event if the PMMov is over 700.
COST:
We want this event to be financially accessible for all, so we are offering a Pay-What-You-Feel sliding scale of $0-$25 for this event. A paid “ticket” is not required to RSVP or attend; we will ask for donations at the door (via cash or Venmo) to help cover event costs.
Currently our expenses per event will include; space rental, insurance, masks, snacks, lyric sheet printing, and potentially piano accompaniment. We will be transparent about the exact cost and what your money is being used for at the event.
