Come to the MUSE Members Monthly Jam session! Get to know other MUSE members in the NYC area and gather to make music in this casual jam-sess!
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Everyone shows up with your instrument(s) or voices! (the studio will provide keys, amps, and drums)
2. Meet, greet, and snacks!
3. There will be a hat full of song titles (popular songs and musical theater)
4. Draw from the hat - the whole group attempts to play/sing through the song together
5. Cycle around to other instruments / mingle
FAQ:
What is MUSE?
- MUSE is an organization committed to creating diversity within the music departments of the theatre industry by providing access, internships, mentorships, and support to historically marginalized people of color.
I'm a MUSE member, but I'm not a great instrumentalist–can I still come and just vibe?
- Of course! The purpose of this hangout is to meet each other! However, we highly encourage you to participate...even if that's just singing along, playing on your recorder from elementary school, or a kazoo.
What if 12 trumpet players show up?
- Fight to the death! Jk. We'll have a very fun very trumpet-y jam session.
What if multiple keyboardists show up?
- In the past, I've hosted one where we had 4 keys players. I put out two different keyboards (one on synth) and people rotated in shifts! The breaks are also a great way for people to get to know each other.
What if we don't know the song?
- We'll try to populate the hat with very well-known songs, but we can skip songs if not enough people know them.
Why is there a waiting list?
- Unfortunately, the studio only can seat 25 people (plus, a 50-person jam session would be HIGHLY chaotic). Spots will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis...pls be sure to update your RSVP if you can no longer attend!
