Hyggehiking Randall's Island

On Saturday August 31st, we'll be exploring the parks, gardens, groves, and bridges of Randall's Island, culminating in an evening wander through Central Park to enjoy its night fauna — raccoons, bats, possums, herons, and off-leash doggos! "Hyggehiking" is my own special blend, where we engage in that conviviality while trekking through green spaces throughout our city. I host Hygge gatherings so we can come together to make new friends, discuss fun projects we're eager to work on, dive into deep, thoughtful discussions, and meet people who can help make NYC feel like a smaller, closer-knit community. We bring our friends, family, coworkers, anyone we think would enjoy spending the day alongside a variety of curious souls. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🗺️ ITINERARY 🗺️ 10am-11am — Hallett Nature Sanctuary ✨ We're starting off in a surreal spot: the quietude of a nature sanctuary mere feet away from the bustle of cars, horses, and tourists along Central Park South. There's only 1 entrance and exit. 11am-1pm — 550 Madison, The Hugh ✨ We'll stop for coffee at 550 Madison and lunch at The Hugh before making our way toward Randall's Island. 1pm-2pm — Rockefeller University, Carl Schurz Park, Ward's Island Bridge Randall's Island ✨ We'll breeze through a variety of waterfront parks and pass beneath the iconic Tram to Roosevelt Island. 2pm-4pm — Wards Island Park, Water's Edge Garden, Randall's Island Urban Farm, Freshwater Meadow ✨ Hopefully we'll see some groundhogs, birds, fish, and other wildlife as we navigate the island's many fields, farms, and meadows! 4pm-5pm — Icahn Stadium, Stephen Perry Grove, Randall's Island Field #6 ✨ From these vantage points, we'll be able to see Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Riker's Island, North & South Brother islands, and planes taking off from Laguardia. 5pm-7pm — Marcus Garvey Park, Mount Morris Fire Watchtower, dinner from local Bronx eateries ✨ We'll be passing by food trucks and cafes featuring Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, Thai, Greek, and American influences, and we'll bring our nibbles to the park to see about watching sunset from the top of the firetower. 7pm-9pm — Central Park: Conservatory Garden, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, Arthur Ross Pinetum, Belvedere Castle, The Ramble, Bow Bridge, The Mall and Literary Walk, Umpire Rock ✨ Central Park by night is a uniquely satisfying experience: cooler, fewer tourists, and a whole new swath of critters living out their lives, from bats and raccoons to possums and doggos with glow collars enjoying their post-dusk off-leash freedom! 9pm-10pm — Amore Pizza Café ✨ Still hungry?
