Note that this class is intended for beginners, if you're still using Tinkercad, OpenSCAD, or Sktchup (and hating every minute of it), you're my target audience - come find out how much less frustrating a real CAD program can be. --- Have you recently discovered that your CAD skills aren't quite as good as you'd like them to be? Are you scraping by with downloadable part files, really simple models, or clunky CAD software that you don't really know how to use? Do you find yourself apprehensive, avoidant, or frustrated when you realize you need to make a custom part? If so I can help! Join me for a short CRASH COURSE intended to get you up and running quickly so that you can stop dreading the CAD process and actually enjoy creating custom parts. Onshape is a free browser based parametric solid modeling program used for mechanical engineering (it's basically the google docs of the CAD world). You will need to bring a laptop (it is browser based so it will run on most devices) and a mouse with a scroll wheel. (Do not try to be the person who does CAD without a mouse - those people make my heart hurt!) Full disclaimer: While part of my day job involves teaching CAD to high school students, this isn't the primary program we use (but boy did it save my butt during covid), so while I'm rock solid on the basics I can't guarantee that I can answer your every question (but I can at least get you started). I get it, CAD is scary, you pretty much need to know everything in order to do anything at all which makes it really intimidating for new users. I'm often alarmed by how many people are just skating by and feel completely overwhelmed when they need to CAD anything. CAD is such a powerful tool and if you're a maker, it's one you need. Every time I encounter someone who should be comfortable utilizing CAD, but isn't, I feel an overwhelming need to fix the problem. So please, let me help make you into a proficient and happy CAD user so that you can go out and make cool things and then help other people become proficient and happy CAD users!
