WELCOME TO THE INAGURAL NO FILTER FLASH MOB ~ breaking beauty standards edition ~ WHO - You, your sisters, girlies, mamas, movers, shakers, women lovers and patriarchy haters. This is for any woman, trans woman, non-binary person and woman ally. WHAT - A freestyle flash dance mob in Washington Square Park. This public dance party is a statement against toxic beauty standards, which subvert our sovereignty. WEAR: Baggy clothes to suppress the male gaze, face contouring masks OR face shields to represent the masks we all wear, OR wear whatever TF you want. It's your body, your choice. WHEN: Wednesday, September 4th at 5pm. WHY - To demonstrate women empowerment, through free expression and movement. ​GUIDELINES: - Be respectful - Don't litter - Be a friend, make a friend POSTER IDEAS: (Posters are encouraged, but not necessary) - "Not taking your B.S. (Beauty Standards)" - "My body is not a trend" - “Age or DIE” - "Plastic Surgeons are the highest paid physicians in the U.S. and 85% of them are MEN" - "Beauty Standards Keep Women Broke" -"The greatest threat to the patriarchy is a women who knows who she is and goes after what she wants" - "SHE WANTED TO, SO SHE DID" - "Sustainability is Sexy" - "Baby Botox leads to Bankrupt Adults" - "Self-Sufficiency is Always Trending" WARDROBE: Wear your favorite baggy tee and a face covering of some sort: - A face shield - A post-surgery-esque chin strap/face contouring mask - A good 'ol mouth covering - Hella face stars - A masquerade mask *We all wear an array of different masks throughout the day, showing off particular sides of ourselves to our coworkers, our family, and friends. What's most important is loving and accepting the person behind the mask. Though on September 4th, we will hyperbolize our coverage to dance with abandon and anonymity as a community.* MEET YOUR HOST: Jennifer Martin is the author of "Jenny Eats The World: Tales of a Traveling Bulimic," and a survivor of toxic beauty standards.
