As a founder of Holistic Resistance, Grief to Action and The Chronically UnderTouched Project, Aaron takes the time to hold the stories of Black people around homophobia, transphobia, and internalized racism. Aaron's journey began, as it does for many Black men, with lack of loving and platonic touch. Now, Aaron assists other Black men in developing holistic touch practices to move from a Chronically UnderTouched state into touch balance. Aaron aims to create spaces for Black people and People of the Global Majority (PGM/BIPOC) to connect with each other and the earth. He and his team are establishing retreats and workshops on Black-owned land in the Mojave Desert and beyond to promote emotional and physical tenderness, platonic connection, and singing, which enhances the healing process for those overlooked by mainstream society. The Chronically UnderTouched (CUT) Project is a movement supporting People of the Global Majority — people of color — to recover healthy, nourishing, platonic touch in a culture that, in the United States, denies it at every turn. Born out of the development and tracking of the Chronically UnderTouched trauma story, the CUT Project develops accessible practices — deep listening, song, access to nature — as antidotes to the The Black Brute archetype. Aaron Johnson’s powerful short film "Dark and Tender" follows ten Black men on a transformative retreat with the Chronically UnderTouched (CUT) Project outside Seattle, WA. The men seek to reclaim platonic intimacy and tenderness through close encounters with nature and depictions of gentle Black masculinity, restoring the vital aspect of touch by replacing violence and rough play with care, connection, and intimacy. ______________________________ ABOUT THRIVE STREET CHOIR: Why Community Singing? Thrive Street Choir believes that amplifying our voices in the world is an act of social strength and resistence to forces of domination. We come together to harmonize, listen and gather our collective resilience. Thrive Street Choir facilitates community singing events & hosts song leaders (local and from visiting bioregions) who carry a focus on music as a practice of resistance and liberation. We organize to support bringing groups to actions/movements to sing and bring our voices to the streets! This group is for all those who want to sing during these times -- no previous singing experience is necessary 🎶 This space honors the knoweldge that community singing is a vulnerable and courageous act - we welcome imperfection and mutual learning. TSC recognizes we all come into these spaces with different lived experiences, backgrounds, histories and identities. We do not assume we will all feel the same in these circles. We welcome you to come into this space authentically and performance-free. We amplify the voices of folks of the global majority, queer/trans/gender-nonconforming folks and honor the cultural significance of songs with respect of their history, tradition and lineage. Reach out to us if you have an event in mind, desire to host a circle, have a connection for us, or have a space to host!
