Skin and Bones Theater presents a double feature movie night curated by Second Daughter Cinema, celebrating two beautiful takes on Black love and identity. We'll be screening A Powerful Thang (1991, 54min), Zeinabu irene Davis' vibrant indie romance short film about community and the spark of new romance, and Medicine for Melancholy (2008, 88min), Barry Jenkins' tender debut feature film about connection, race, and gentrification in San Francisco. Both films are honest, artful portrayals of love, place, and self-discovery from two generations of Black directors early in their career. Free to the public but donations welcomed. Popcorn and drinks by donation. Doors at 6:30 PM, screenings from 7-9:30 PM. Second Daughter Cinema is a film series curated by Marcella Zigbuo Camara. It prioritizes presenting archival, indie, forgotten, and global majority directed films to the public. Skin and Bones Theater is an independent cinema and performance space coming to downtown Durham next summer. Visit skinandbonestheater.com to learn more.
