Hominis is a series of four pieces reflecting upon man’s relationship and understanding of the world around him: Hand of Man, Waves of Man, Knowledge of Man, Network of Man.
The series looks at what man has constructed in the physical world but also what man has constructed within its own mind. And the word “man” is used intentionally to reflect the male dominated world that has existed historically and how it has influenced and biased what has been constructed by humanity. The duality of the seen and unseen is manifested in the work by having two different visual experiences when the pieces are viewed from a distance versus upon closer examination. It is reminiscent of Salvador Dali’s “Lincoln in Dalivision” but it is a much more granular and subtle application of the technique that is only possible because of the recent advancements in generative AI image technology. The use of generative AI is another layer of commentary about the physical versus what only exists in our minds, contemplating the nature of what is real or artificial.
