We're back with another in-person meetup, with 2 amazing talks scheduled! If you'd like to speak at a future meetup, you can propose a talk here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfEidu-mDbexVncTUMak4MfCMkSBb0bt-r9w5A63jrdJfnqOw/viewform . JOIN US at Mux's beautiful San Francisco office for talks, networking, food & drinks, and discussions on the exciting updates to React + AI's implications on UI development! Schedule Overview 5:30pm: Food & drinks, open networking 6:35: Welcome & introduction 6:40: Talks + AI Audience discussion 8:00: Open networking 10:00: Doors close Talk 1 Christian Pillsbury: React + Web Components - Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow While Web Components have been over a decade in the making, it's only fairly recently that they've really gained the stability, support, and momentum of taking them seriously. Unfortunately, out of the many popular web app frameworks, React has been amongst the slowest to ensure robust support and ease of use... but not for long! In this talk, I'll quickly cover some of the historic hurdles of working on Web Components in React, spend a good chunk of time on what's possible right now (both in v18 and what's in the works for v19/experimental), and finish with what needs to happen to continue evolving this symbiotic relationship. Along the way, I'll talk through some gotchas around CSS, TypeScript, SSR, CLS, and various other acronyms, using some of our open source components as examples. About Christian Started working on OTT streaming media & players over a decade ago for a bunch of folks back in the Adobe Flash/RTMP days as a senior consultant at Digital Primates. Over that time, I've also worked on many large scale frontend enterprise applications across a variety of frameworks, with React--particularly "functional React architectures"--being at the fore. Talk 2 Sean Grove: AI-Powered Interfaces and the End of Traditional UI Development With the rise of AI-powered interfaces, the role of traditional UI development is changing rapidly. Currently, UI development is crucial to apps, but with the advancements in AI technology, the vast majority of UIs quite likely will be generated on the fly, without any need for human intervention. Organizational requirements for UI developers in the future will be vastly different, as the technology itself will be responsible for creating and iterating on the UIs based on the task at hand. So how do we evolve in the landscape? We'll see some (95% real!) demos of computer-generated UIs created on the fly, and then discuss what life looks like for us at that point. Who will still be writing UIs, and how will AI technology will offer unprecedented assistance, making it easier and more efficient to create highly customized and functional interfaces. We'll explore the implications of this shift in UI development and offer insights into how developers can adapt and leverage this technology to remain relevant and innovative in the industry. About Sean Sean Grove is a seasoned tech leader and software engineer who's passionate about innovation and making complex problems simple. With a strong background in programming languages like Rust, Clojure, and OCaml, Sean is uniquely positioned to bridge cutting-edge technology with real-world solutions. He has even founded two Y-Combinator startups and sold OneGraph to Netlify in 2021, where he now serves as Principal Architect. Recently, Sean has ventured into the world of machine learning, working on projects like Journaliza, Prator, and Prof Dumbot. These projects aim to help developers and users leverage AI to enhance productivity and communication, and he's firmly in the camp that this is only the beginning of how ML will impact daily life and developer tooling. His passion for exploring new frontiers in this exciting and rapidly evolving field is contagious, and he's always eager to push the limits of what's possible with technology.
