I’ve gotten access to a private walk-through of Phillips’ Marquee May sale with Jeremiah Evarts, Senior International Specialist and Deputy Chairman, and one of the sharpest people in the auction world.
Phillips is one of the “big three” auction houses, known for their bold focus on contemporary art, early bets on artists like KAWS and Amoako Boafo, and a more curated, fashion-forward approach to sales. They’ve carved out a niche as the house that knows what’s next—and they’re not afraid to take risks.
Auction exhibitions are the best place to start developing your collector’s eye. You'll see an incredible mix of artists—Basquiat, Hockney, Cecily Brown, Simone Leigh—before their works disappear into private collections. These are museum-quality pieces that only resurface once every couple decades.
Jeremiah knows the art market inside and out, so expect some fun inside baseball and behind-the-scenes insight into how it really works. After the tour, we’ll grab cocktails nearby and keep the conversation going.
