Join us at Uzay Gallery for The Great Merging, an evening celebrating featuring the art of Gabriela Silva Myers Lipton, aka @silvatooth. Gabriela will speak on her art and inspiration, and selected works will be on display and available for purchase. We will have coloring books of Gabriela's design, to be illustrated with inspiration of your own. Snacks, drinks and soundscapes will be provided. Death is a form of organic symmetry: it is a return to the state (source) from which we came. The work of Gabriela Silva Meyers Lipton seeks to dismantle the conventional understanding of death as a terrifying state, and transform it into a vibrant, safe realm: a re-emerging with the universe. “I call back to The Symmetry Argument, posited by 3rd Century BC philosopher Epicurus, which reminds us that our attitudes towards birth and death should be identical. Just as we do not fear the mysterious state that existed prior to our birth, we should not fear the mysterious state that will exist after our death. It is a call for us to recognize and accept the natural cycle of life and death. I have seen the process of death up close, and have come to recognize that it can be a form of freedom. As humans, we often struggle to see dying as anything other than an end. Ultimately, my goal with this series is to offer a space for contemplation and reflection, inviting viewers to consider their own relationship with death and the universe. I employ pixels as a metaphor for atoms, our fundamental building blocks. These pieces are painted on bristol paper with acrylic paint, gauche, rhinestones, and paint pens. The works begin digitally, on a pixel grid, then I bring my work into the physical world by painting each square by hand. While from afar it may look very accurate, come closer and the viewer is able to see the natural shakes of my hands, consciously trying to make straight lines.” All sales are final; all proceeds will support the artists and logistics.
