Fragments of Home: An Immigrant's Tapestry

Artist statement:
This exhibition is a deeply personal reflection on the act of constructing a sense of place in a world where ‘home’ is both a memory and a destination.
The artwork layers personal narratives - fragments of memories, poetry and journals - with found objects - imbued with previous lives - to weave a deeply intimate tapestry.
The Persian rug, a potent symbol of my Iranian heritage, is both a tangible link to my past and a metaphor for the intricacies of identity and the immigrant experience. In some works, the rug conceals the challenging emotions and experiences 'swept under the rug'. In others, it weaves new narratives, transforming into a paintbrush, painting a future rich with possibilities.
Through the intricate patterns and vibrant colors of the Persian rug, combined with written words in Farsi and English, I explore the duality of tradition and transformation, honoring my cultural roots while embracing the ever-evolving journey of self-discovery and belonging.
