From Tunisia to Yemen, from Egypt to Iraq, nearly one million Jews left their homes.
Overnight. Some fled, some were expelled, carrying only what a few suitcases could hold.
No space for their ancestors’ graves, for the scent of orange trees in bloom, for the gold in their synagogues or the shared meals with neighbors.
They left behind centuries of life, and took only what the heart could carry.
What remains of that world now?

& Them is a short documentary that revisits the exile and rebirth of Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews—the nearly one million who left North Africa and the Middle East in the mid-20th century.
Blending intimate interviews, archival fragments, and reimagined scenes, the film follows artists, entrepreneurs, and descendants who carry that memory and transform their sorrow into creation through music, food, and celebrations that keep their heritage alive.
& Them offers a counter-narrative to trauma: a portrait of resilience, humor, and tenderness, and of a culture reborn – joyful, lyrical, and alive through its children and grandchildren.
