Solstice in the Park

Solstice in the Park is a free, volunteer-run, community event to celebrate midsummer with song, dance, pageantry, ritual, and joyful folk culture. We will honor the turning of the stars, mark a beautiful tradition of public revelry, and build community together. 1. TIMELINE 4:00-5.00PM - Gather at Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park. We'll be at the Pagoda nearest the Brooklyn Public Library with a Solstice banner! 5:00PM - Procession into Prospect Park to Nellie's Lawn (So arrive before 5pm!) 6:00PM - Mythic Pageant with puppets followed by folk dances 7:00PM till late - Picnic, Singing, Workshops, And More! 2. WHAT TO BRING - WATER! It is likely to be a warm day, so bring any water you'll need for a late afternoon in the park. - Food and drink: Bring a picnic for yourself and friends, plus a drink to share. - Picnic blanket, if you have one! - Instruments: all welcome, especially any tambourines and drums for the parade... 3. WHAT TO WEAR Wear your summer solstice best: flower crowns, sun dresses, and colors of nature. Anything that makes you think “summer solstice festive!” If you want to really turn it up, we welcome costumes and creative dress! Be inspired by the wildlife of the park (birds, flowers, trees, butterflies, or even fish) or perhaps tap into the astrological theme (metallic, stars, moon, sun). Most importantly, come as you are!
