On Saturday November 22nd, we'll explore the newly-opened East River Promenade in Manhattan, then blaze a trail through Bushwick, peeping into as many of its iconic large-scale event venues as we can and learning if any of us have fun stories from events we've attended (or hosted!) there over the years. Serendipity awaits π₯Ύπ«
FYI this is a 12 hour stroll spanning 10+ miles, and you are free to join us at *any* point along the way π
All RSVP'd "yes" and "maybe" attendees will receive a link at 10am to my realtime location for the entire hike, along with my phone number, so you can see exactly where we are on google maps and text me when you plan to join so we can keep an eye out for ya π€

π«Ά In memorium π«Ά
Many of you may know my late friend Craig Sinclair, who passed earlier this year and would have just celebrated his 50th birthday. I had asked him last year about his favorite spots to walk and wander in NYC, and I've included several of them on this hike π. His partner Shannon is currently finishing his memoir, and you can support her efforts here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/slcarroll/craigs-50th-birthday-gift-finishing-his-memoir

πΏ About Hyggehiking πΏ
Hygge means "a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being."
"Hyggehiking" is my own special blend, where we engage in that conviviality while trekking through green spaces throughout our city.
I host Hygge gatherings so we can come together to make new friends, discuss fun projects we're eager to work on, dive into deep, thoughtful discussions, and meet people who can help make NYC feel like a smaller, closer-knit community. We bring our friends, family, coworkers, anyone we think would enjoy spending the day alongside a variety of curious souls.

πΊοΈ ITINERARY πΊοΈ
Here's my Google Maps list of the places we'll pass by:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/LHb5pz2iPKbxyzx47
10am-10:30am β Georgie's Cafe (inside Vital LES)
π Our gathering spot is a terraced cafe full of plants and climbers.
10:30am-1pm β Pier 35, East River Park Amphitheater, East River Promenade, Williamsburg Bridge Pedestrian Path
π We'll explore all the new buildouts along the East River and then cross our way into Brooklyn.
1pm-3pm β Domino Park, Iona, Bushwick Inlet Park, McCarren Park, WNYC Transmitter Park, Jubilee Marketplace
π We'll wander through Brooklyn's coastal parks, assess the food truck scene, visit a Scottish bar with a lovely garden beloved by Craig, then find out if reports of $4 omakase in Greenpoint are true!
3pm-5pm β Coffee Check, For the Record, Newtown Creek Nature Walk, Msgr. McGolrick Park, Under the βKβ Bridge Park
π We'll caffeinate, take in some "nature", then begin our explorations of some of Brooklyn's most famed nightlife venues.
5pm-6pm β Brooklyn Steel, The Brooklyn Monarch, Bogart House, Future Space, Carroll Hall, Rubulad, House of Yes, The Red Pavilion, Elsewhere, Avant Gardener, The Keep
π We may not be able to enter all these spaces, but we'll definitely ask about what events are happening later in the evening, and perhaps vote with our feet later on which ones we want to return to!
6pm-8pm β Secret Riso Club, Grover Cleveland Park, Sunset Garden, Maria Hernandez Park, Irving Square Park
π We'll duck into a cherished bookstore and printmaking club recommended by a former hyggehiker, then venture through a few more parks en route to my personal favorite group gathering spot in Brooklyn.
8pm-10pm β Nowadays, Wonderville
π I loved visiting here during a previous hike and I want to go back in the evening to see what the nighttime vibe is like. Depending on how busy things are, we may meander over to Wonderville, a dive bar with a huge variety of custom-built arcade games, or to any of the other nightlife venues we checked out!
