A sex symbol in the 70s, Russell made a number of films about sexual commodification and role playing in the late 80s and 90s. Russell was directed by Sondra Locke, longtime girlfriend & co-star of Clint Eastwood. When Eastwood dumped Locke while she was directing the movie, she fought back, instigating a series of lawsuits that revealed how Eastwood and his studio had conspired against her, and the how the power dynamics of Hollywood had scuppered her career.
