This tree oversaw so much. The civil war. The Flu Pandemic of 1918. (Lots of graves in this cemetery from both of those.) Abolition, reconstruction, civil rights. Etc, etc. We are holding a funeral service to help us build greater empathy for the rest of nature. Eulogies will be delivered by leaders and practitioners of multiple faith & spiritual traditions: a rabbi, a pastor, a Buddhist, and a Cherokee. - Bring fruit or nuts—gifts of trees—to share. - Bring a blanket or folding chair to sit on. - Family-friendly. - You will be given a tree map of the cemetery. Please RSVP so we know how many to print! See map below for location of tree. While we would love to include a tree planting as part of the ceremony, the cemetery keepers have already scheduled a planting of a large-ish new Linden sapling near the dearly departed in March.
