A few of us do a daily standup at 9:30 am on weekdays.
We journal for 3 minutes about what we have on our plate for the day, what we're excited about, and what we're blocked on. Then we spend 1 minute each sharing with the group.
This often leads to spontaneous unblocking (someone else in the group has the solution to your problem). In addition, people sometimes coordinate during standup to co-work that day, to workout together, etc.

Note -- we start and end on time! Latecomers pay a pushups (or equivalent) tax.
