People’s Remix Community Talk - Let’s get deep
Questions we will explore together:
• Why do we still use the labels “Black” “Brown”and “White”?
• Do these words unite us, divide us, or both?
• What’s the difference between race, culture, ethnicity, and ancestry and which one do YOU identify w the most and why? If you were able to rank these which order would you put and why?
• Who decides how we identify ourselves now and in the future?
What to expect - intro from me, then we will break out into small groups and discuss these questions. Then share collective takeaways amongst the larger group, then conclude.
Community Agreements
• Speak from your own experience.
• Listen to understand, not to win.
• Assume good intentions while remaining open to impact.
• Respect vulnerability and confidentiality.
• Be curious. It’s okay to disagree.
• Leave space for every voice. There will be times to break out into groups to speak in small groups longer. But when we’re in the larger group, we’re limiting people to a 2 min so that we can make space for everybody to speak.
• you’re more than welcome to eat or drink during the meeting. It’s formal and informal depending on how each person wants to show up comfortably.
Our goal isn’t to reach one answer. It’s to leave with a deeper understanding of ourselves, one another, and the language we use to describe who we are.
