Fintech and Insurtech are slowly converging into each other – at least that’s the perspective of Kevin Mackey, co-founder of Insurtech startup Coterie and Fintech startup 1000Zebras. His most recent business, Coterie, is a Series B funded Insurtech startup focused on embedded distribution of small business insurance. In total, Coterie has raised over $100 million in venture capital funding, has grown its staff from zero to 160+ employees across the world, and is on pace for an IPO in the next couple of years. After graduating from the University of Dayton with a degree in Finance and Accounting in 2007, and working as a buy-side equity researcher through the financial crisis era, Kevin tapped his entrepreneurial DNA as a founder and technology ecosystem builder for the past decade. He founded his first company, Glue, in 2011 and worked for three years at Cintrifuse, a public/private partnership with an active network of venture capitalists, large corporations, and growing tech startups. In between startup experiences, Kevin ghost wrote, “The Fearless Front Line”, which is a book about organizational and leadership design. Following Coterie, Kevin’s newest business is 1000Zebras, a business network that offers banking, healthcare, and other important services, on-demand. The purpose of 1000Zebras is to build shared infrastructure that leads to shared economic benefit for entrepreneurs in the network. Its ultimate goal is to create a chartered federal credit union, which will be owned by its members. 1000Zebras specializes in working with companies ranging from solopreneurs generating more than $3,000 per month to funded startups that have raised between $250,000 and $5,000,000 to companies growing their staff up to 20 to 30 employees.
