The Card Catalog of Potential
Let’s build worlds together!
An invitation to fill my vintage, four-drawer library card catalog with index card art. All accepted submissions will be printed in a community zine which will be mailed to you at a later date. I will also post the index card art on my website and on my Instagram at @wordsiheld, credited with your name and social media and/or website. Folks will also take home an open calls zine with a stamped envelope to my PO box, blank index cards, brads, photo corners, and more. You do not need to have your index cards done that day and can mail them to me by July 30th.
Each drawer will hold a separate open call, inviting visuals, words, objects, and any combination thereof.
The Drawer 1 Call for Entry, “My Favorite Flaw”, requests physical flaws you own and admire which have been rejected.
Drawer 2 asks you to “Write a Dedication in a Book and Present You’d Give” for an occasion that’s not already established for gift-giving.
Drawer 3 is “Patterns You Admire” where folks submit any pattern (psychological, weather, fabric, divination, etc.) and why they’re drawn to it.
The final one, Drawer 4, is “Building Wilcaville” where submissions are made of structures, citizens, events, weather, animal life, shops, want ads, gossip, etc.
All calls can interact and build off of and/or contradict previous submissions, plus folks can hand other cities and towns. These four calls are interlaced with Possibility & Potential, for example, finding beauty in being ostracized; reconciling, celebrating, or moving on from the people in our lives; learning about ourselves, others, and the world via our obsessions; and manifesting a vibrant city as a collaboration with strangers we’ve never met before.
I will bring tons of blank index cards, art supplies, magazines, and ephemera for folks to use. And people are happily invited to bring their own materials if they have an idea in mind or they want to share.
