Now You See Us is finally back this year with our first event being a film screening of Mississippi Masala, a film directed by Mira Nair, to kick of AAPI Heritage Month. The film explores the complexities of cultural identity and interracial relationships in rural Mississippi. The story revolves around the romance between Mina, an Indian American woman, and Demetrius, an African American man, highlighting the challenges of immigration and societal expectations faced by Indian Americans in the American South. After the film, we'll have a brief discussion sharing our own thoughts of the cultural themes, racial topics, and current Asian American experiences. BYOB is permitted and we will have popcorn to serve. Seats are on a first come first served basis. We WILL be checking in confirmed guests at the door so please ensure that you have paid via Venmo or Cashapp before you arrive. We can't wait to see you!
