Vox Viriditas
Vox Viriditas is a group exploration of flower essences through listening and sounding.
This is a workshop that I’ve been dreaming into for over a year now: We’ll begin with some listening and sound-making practices and then I’ll share two mystery flower essences for the group to tune into and interpret through sonic improvisation. Afterward, I’ll share the names of the essences and a bit of information about them.
I’ll be recording our improvisations to share as part of my final project for my essence practitioner training. This workshop is a way of exploring the medicine that a particular flower essence has to offer.
The essences will be available for purchase for $5 each for anyone who would like to continue working with them after our initial sonic explorations.
ABOUT THE NAME:
September 17th is the Feast of St. Hildegard of Bingen — a 12th Century German abbess and multi-talented mystic who is known for her vocal compositions and her medicinal work with plants. Hildegard is, arguably, one of the earliest recorded flower essence practitioners in Europe. She draped fabric over plants at night to collect their dew and then placed the strips of fabric on her patients to treat emotional imbalances. Hildegard is credited with the invention of the word “viriditas,” which conjoins the Latin terms for “green” and “truth,” translating to something to the effect of “the divine, greening power of nature.” Hildegard saw this green life force and tendency towards vitality not just in plants, but in all things on Earth.
So — the Vox Viriditas workshop is an effort to collectively channel “the verdant voice of nature” by noticing what an essence evokes in our bodies and minds and improvising sound from that experience.
