From 1926 to 1991, the San Francisco Ice Rink once stood at the city's edge. While the infrastructure may be gone, the good feelings are still around. In the bones of this Sunset Relic, local band My Dog Jack and the residents of 1545 48th Ave are proud to present the fifth edition of the Rinkside Sessions, a recurring acoustic house show showcasing up-and-coming songwriters.
This will be in the folk showcase style, little to no drums, and each band will play a quick set of 4 songs each.
Doors at 7 pm, big hang at Pitt’s after!
Our headliner is the folk legend, Mark Tegio, a West Coast tour dog, based out of Portland, Oregon. Tegio songs are a combination of Townes Van Zandt's dark, poetic imagery, the levity of Blaze Foley tunes, and Tom Waits’ vivid storytelling. All unite to create the distinctive barroom poetry of Mark Tegio. Mark started touring in 2017 with his duo, Smith and Tegio, and released two LPs—Smith and Tegio and Can’t Stay Here—along with a couple of singles. In 2025, with the evolution from a duo to a five-piece band, Smith and Tegio changed their name to The Lowtimers (https://www.thelowtimers.com/). They released their debut album on May 16th. We are grateful Mark is taking the time to stop by ours on his way down CA!
Tom Conneely & Birds of Paradise have quickly become a fixture in San Francisco’s indie scene, drawing loyal crowds with their raw, hypnotic live shows. After turning heads with the hissy intimacy of their 2023 EP Sun Child, the band cemented their place with the release of New Kind Palace in March 2025 on Kestrel Records. The record builds on their lo-fi roots with a bold mix of tape-warm guitars, inventive electronics, and impressionistic lyricism that has resonated across the Bay and beyond. From packed hometown shows to festival stages up and down the coast, Birds of Paradise are carving out a reputation as one of San Francisco’s most exciting bands.
And Finally! Another local folk act that has been rising in popularity in SF, the great Eliza Rose. Since returning home to the Bay Area, Eliza Rose has stepped into her musicianship as a singer/songwriter. Eliza uses music to explore deeply personal questions about her life and her role in it. Her music is intimate and self-reflective. Eliza finds influences across different genres, but is ultimately inspired by candid storytelling set to beautiful and simple musical backdrops.
This event will sell out! Once you RSVP, please Venmo $10 My Dog Jack (@mydogjackband) with the word “Rinkside” to reserve your ticket.
Thanks, everyone, for supporting these amazing songwriters, and we are excited to share our home with the neighborhood.
All the best,
MDJ
