EVENT UPDATE 1/24
Hello Neighbors.
We have some unfortunate news. The Parks Department has asked us to cancel the McGolrick Marathon. We've chosen to cooperate with them and will work on rescheduling the event. We apologize to all runners, spectators, and supporters. We’ll follow up soon about donations and next steps. Please know this blunder is on us and not NBK Mutual Aid. More updates tonight—please hold questions until then.

General Race Info:
-RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK. This race is purely for fun and its purpose is to raise money for NBKMA.
-Safety is our number one concern for both runners and park-goers. Because of this, we have capped the participation at 75 runners. If you are on the waitlist, we kindly ask you not to show up to run, only spectate. Please be mindful of park-goers as you run the race. Do not run in large groups side by side, block/interfere with pedestrians, or cause disturbances. This is a quiet park and we are undoubtedly increasing its typically capacity. We want to limit our disruption.
-Water and Gatorade will be provided while supplies last. Please bring your own vessel to fill.
-Warm drinks, pastries, and bananas will be supplied by Campbell & Co. Thank you to Drama Club for sponsoring.
-Please pick up after yourselves. Littering will not be tolerated.
-Bring all necessary supplies to run a self-supported race. We recommend bringing fuel, water, and any supplies needed between rounds including winter jackets, hand warmers, blankets, etc. It is going to be COLD. Please ensure you run a safe race - stay warm and fueled.

Ever dreamed of running a seemingly endless number of laps in our beloved McGolrick Park? Well, you're in luck! Welcome to the first annual McGolrick Marathon!
The McGolrick Marathon with be a philanthropic "Backyard Ultra." What is a backyard ultra? Great question! The backyard ultra or "last one standing" is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run the distance of 6.706 kilometres (4.167 mi) in less than one hour, which is a pace of 100 miles per 24 hours. The race is over when only one runner remains to complete a segment. This runner is marked as the winner!
For the McGolrick Marathon, this means we will run 10 laps every hour, on the hour. Last one standing will be crowned the winner and dubbed the "McGolrick Maniac!"
What's at stake? Wow, another fantastic question! Not a whole lot, but you will have bragging rights and some sore legs! There will be a $10 entry fee for participants who want to run which will be donated to our friends at North Brooklyn Mutual Aid.
Don't want to run? Come spectate by paying the $10 entry fee OR choose to sponsor a runner by contributing money towards each lap they run! For example, if I wanted to sponsor my friend, Ben, I could commit to donating $0.50/lap. If Ben lasts 5 rounds (equal to 50 laps or ~21 miles), you would donate $25. This aspect is pay what you wish! If you choose to sponsor a runner, please forgo the initial payment and leave a comment with the runner of your choice plus your commitment ($/lap).
Send donations to $Phil-Shamet via Venmo. We will compile and make a lump sum donation to North Brooklyn Mutual Aid at the conclusion of the race.
When and where will this happen? OK, you're starting to ask a lot of questions... The marathon will take place on Saturday January 25, 2025. Runners will gather at the Monitor Memorial on the east side of the park at 8:30am and the race will begin promptly at 9:00am. The race will last as long as necessary to crown a champion.
What if I need to pee? Your most important question yet! There are public restrooms in the park which should be open. We will also have a makeshift aid station near the Monitor Monument with water available. With that being said, please bring supplies if you plan on running (water bottle, nutrition, blankets/winter jacket, etc.).
Let's make this a party!
We're excited to kick this event off, raise money for a great cause, and put ourselves through physical and psychological torture!! Feel free to send this to anyone your heart desires, and good luck runners!
