Been a minute since our August pool party. What's been on your mind lately?
Oh wait, don't tell me. I'll just read it myself with my handy little BCI. 😉
While AI dominates headlines, neurotechnology has flown under the radar -- even as nearly every major tech player invests in wearables, robotics, and brain-computer interfaces.
Already, neuroscience and AI make it possible to read passwords from electrical impulses, pattern-match brain activity to evidence of a crime, and receive alerts moments before an epileptic seizure.
Once neurotechnology becomes our predominant user interface, how much of your mind remains under your control? How private are your thoughts? Where lies the line between persuasion and manipulation? And are our legal frameworks ready for brain transparency?
Nita Farahany, Distinguished Professor of Law & Philosophy at Duke Law School, is the author of the new book, The Battle for Your Brain: Defending the Right to Think Freely in the Age of Neurotechnology. She has been speaking widely about the urgency to recognize and enshrine new cognitive freedoms into our laws before your most private thoughts become the product -- and before surveillance capitalism moves from stolen focus to stolen control.
Please join us for a screening of Nita's talk at this year's World Economic Forum. We promise you'll leave with a lot on your mind...

* Please arrange for childcare.
** We ask for $$ contributions because we want our events to be accessible and high caliber without placing an undue burden on any single individual (those who provide food/drinks, curate the content, convene the humans, and do the logistical heavy lifting). If we met in a bar, we’d each spend at least $12; meeting in homes is more fun and allows for deeper drop-ins. Your contributions keep the hangry away and keep these events accessible to new entrants and anyone in financial transition. All donation amounts, waived fees, and reimbursements are kept in a public spreadsheet available upon request.
