Underneath the glow of the Hollywood sign, nestled next to the failing MTA signals, lies The Film Underground. A series of screenings that brings to light films from the far corners of the outer boroughs and beyond the city limits. Every month, The Film Underground plays stories that strive to get to the heart of what is lost in the clamour and klaxon of life above ground. There are no guidelines, there are no recommendations, there are no restrictions. Everything is welcomed and wanted: films that make you cry, laugh, go numb, scream, revolt, sell all your possessions, and start a new life in the former Eastern Bloc. The Underground is for all the stories that were scoffed at, dismissed, waved away, and mocked. We want the films that would die in the cold-hard practical gaze of Warner Brothers studio lights, be forgotten in Disney’s cutting room floor, and left to perish in the unforgiving glare of Hollywood Boulevard lights.
