The First Ask is an organization committed to advancing the representation and influence of progressive women in state legislatures across the nation. The First Ask’s mission is to identify, enlist, and launch progressive women running for state legislatures across the country. Women make up 51% of the US population, but only 32% of State House members nationwide. By empowering women to run, we fight for equal opportunity and representation in state legislatures nationwide.
In 2025, The First Ask made significant strides in bother Virginia and New Jersey, working to elect eight incredible women, flipping multiple districts and willing an “unwinnable” primary. With a 100% win record in 2025, we are fired up for the midterms.
