Calling all community past, present, and future - a new tea house is on its way! This is the invitation and date for the Grand Opening of La Lune, a new late night, membership-based community tea house in Berkeley! Starting August 1st, we will be located at the Green Yogi Telegraph, a very exciting new partnership with this delightful space. First and foremost, though, we could use your support in the months ahead for any and all who may desire to lend a helping hand! As a community tea house this will always be a collaboration of efforts to make this space feel alive. We can offer various forms of compensation: free tea memberships, yoga classes, and cash money! Please reach out to me (Travis) directly if you have the capacity and interest in supporting. Our current needs are: One-time support ~Carpentry skills: a big shoe rack; wall shelves; designing a door frame; foldable tea tables; hanging storefront signage (Anyone using a laser cutter out there?) ~Translation: We want to translate our values into many languages! ~Playlists: Love making playlists and have an interest in helping set the mood? Yes, please! ~Teas, herbs, and teaware: I have some ideas for suppliers, but I'd love to know more! The tea house will all be gong fu style, so trays, cups, small pots, etc. Would also love to source some local herbs - wild or grown - to dry for our herbal supply. Seeking many herbs! ~Muralists: We'd love more art on our walls/ceilings! ~Lighting design: Information on great lighting systems/sources ~Rugs, stools, and floor cushions: Wanting to make the coziest seating arrangements and curious to see more of what's out there ~Website: We may have this covered but looking for anyone available to build a simple website Ongoing support: ~Hosting: 1x/week shift (1-6:30 or 6:30-midnight M-F, 2-7 or 7-midnight Sa/Su). This once-a-week trade comes with a premium tea membership and discounts on yoga ~Backup hosting: For those who can cover when folks get sick/unavailable. Includes a standard membership and discounts on yoga ~Cleaning: Frequency unclear, but some more membership trades for a bit more cleaning support would be greatly appreciated ~General/Events Manager: A paid position, part time or full time. Unsure on exact timing this will be available, but presently gauging interest! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay okay okay, that's enough of the asks for now- but come August 1st, La Lune will open its doors to the world, kicking off with a Grand Opening! So what's the deal? How will it work? La Lune will be open afternoons until midnight every day. A tea prep area will be available for folks to make their own teas and blends to drink or serve; or sit with others already serving. People are welcome to either purchase a day pass for all-you-can-drink tea, or a month membership (discounted for the Grand Opening!) If you ever came to either Tea Oasis in San Francisco or Oakland, my first tea houses, you'll be very familiar with the style. And for the Grand Opening! $20-40 for the day (Normal day passes ongoing will be $10-20) 2-7pm - Normal opening hours, come drink tea and be merry! We'll have expanded lounge space with extra space to drink/serve tea. 7pm-midnight - Live music in the back studio! We'll likely set up an outdoor lounge for this as well. Monthly membership includes entry to the grand opening 1st tier: $45-55 (down from $59-69) Includes daily entry with all-you-can-drink tea 2nd tier: $85-95 (down from $99-109) Includes daily entry, access to premium teas and teaware, discounts on purchases, two free +1s to bring per month, and a drawer (while supplies last!) with your name on it you can use to store your own teas, tea pets, etc. and receive notes! This will be your forever rate as long as you maintain an active membership. Huzzah! For those wishing to donate to the cause for our startup or ongoing costs, we're organized as a 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations will be tax deductible! This can be a one-time or ongoing donation. Phew okay, that's all for now! Keep your eyes peeled for weekly popups in the space starting in June to test run our tea house. More updates to come over the next three months as we approach. I'm so thrilled to help make this tea house dream a reality again, and that we get to have a rare-to-find late night tea lounge.
