When you're curious about tai chi, it can sometimes be intimidating to sign up for a class with a master. That's the way I felt. If you can relate, this is for you. Tai chi for beginners, by beginners. No perfect movements. No perfect body types. No perfect mindsets.
This is just us learning together. I'm a beginner too, learning for the past several months, and I'm just teaching others what I know, in a way that is easy to follow and approachable. The goal is to learn to be present with our body, present with our mind, and to learn how to pay attention to what each is telling us. Yes, the masters will tell us there's an element of energy or qi or life force involved too. But how about we just ease into this and learn about that along the way?
Present, not perfect.
Field & Flow is collaborating with my friend Nelson Williams through his new sound healing practice called Soul Frequency PDX. As we practice our tai chi, he will provide us with deep, resonant frequencies from crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, and gongs to help transition us into states of deep relaxation. He likes to say that it's like a massage for our nervous system.
What to Expect
During the session, you can expect:
Learning 5-7 easy tai chi movements then we'll do them together as a group. As we repeat the movements, you'll gradually get the hang of it and will be able to do them on your own at home!
Moving meditation - we'll move our bodies slowly and mindfully.
Sitting meditation - we'll practice stillness and presence.
Sound bath - mental and emotional grounding through resonant sounds paired with the natural environment of the birds singing, light wind blowing, and smells of the forest trees.
