AI’s promise is to level the playing field and deliver economic gains to everyone. In reality, it’s shaping a very unequal world. The U.S. and China together command 90% of global computing power, employ 70% of the world’s top AI researchers, and corner a lion’s share of AI investment. Where does this leave everyone else, with countries subject to the whims of Washington and Beijing? How can countries and communities deal with AI’s disruptive effects, including job losses and social upheaval? Is a more equitable future possible?
