Exploratory Choral Meditation: EMPIRE

Hosted by
ᵔᴥᵔ
As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence — a document that decried imperial tyranny — the United States of America has forged its own peculiar brand of empire. U.S. imperialism impacts indigenous people and immigrants, black people, people of color, people in Palestine and Iran, and countless others. Join us (4 days before Juneteenth) for a collective musical improvisation and meditation. We’ll explore their perspectives through poetry, visual art, and songs. In the spirit of a “choral” meditation, all are encouraged to sing together. You are also welcome to bring an instrument, to move and dance in the expansive cathedral space, or to simply reflect in stillness. A zine full of poems and art will be provided, to inspire our improvisation and meditation. No ticket, registration, or cost to attend. Come and go freely at any time. Afterward, at 7pm, there will be a short Compline service with prayer and reflection. artwork: Aspiration 1936 Aaron Douglas famsf.org/artworks/aspiration
