Presented in partnership with Hollyhock House and Mezzanine, Villa Albertine's beloved free outdoor French film festival Films on the Green returns to LA - this time in honor of the 250th anniversary of French-American friendship, with a special screening of Jacques Demy's MODEL SHOP! Join us on the West Lawn for an evening of great cinema, live music and food.
MODEL SHOP (1969 - PG), the sole English-language film by legendary French New Wave director Jacques Demy, is one of the great movies about Los Angeles — featuring beautiful photography of the city’s Westside and capturing everyday life in L.A. as a place of drifting, melancholy, and possibility. A slacker architect (Gary Lockwood) is about to lose his girlfriend and his car, until he sees a beautiful model (Anouk Aimée) and begins to follow her, from Malibu Beach to Beverly Hills mansions to Santa Monica Boulevard’s strip malls. One of the key 1960s films about L.A. and a forerunner of the New Hollywood youth culture, Demy’s film pays a dreamlike reverence to the city’s landscape, and endures as a poignant vision of the sprawling city.
Come see the city you live in like you've never seen it before! Before the film: hear live music featuring the Franco-American singer Jean Luc Eldenwood, and grab a bite from our food trucks to kick off the night right.
Bring your friends, your blankets, and join us on the West Lawn of Hollyhock House for a magical evening under the stars in one of LA's most beautiful spots. See you there!
