It was so wonderful to see everyone who came out for our first Soft Table. Thank you for bringing your stories, your curiosity, your warmth, and your presence. I'm excited to host our second gathering next week.
Somewhere between a song and a sunset, I found out who I am.
Jewish-German. Italian. Scottish.
Not just facts on a screen, but a quiet invitation to remember something older than me.
So this is my attempt to return. Not perfectly. Not traditionally. But honestly.
Starting back again on Friday, June 19th at 5:30 PM, and every other week after that (and maybe more, once it becomes ours), I’ll be gathering at Jazz @ LACMA to welcome Shabbat, the Jewish ritual of rest, reflection, and gathering at the end of the week.
It’s less about religion and more about creating space. About lighting something soft in a loud world.
And we’ll do it a little differently.
We’ll fold in Stammtisch, a German tradition of an informal, recurring table where whoever shows up, shows up. No planning. No pressure. Just presence, over time becoming community.
There will be Italian wine (grazié mille, Giorgio 😉), jazz floating through the air, and the kind of conversations that only happen when no one is rushing to leave.
Bring a blanket.
Bring a bottle and some snackies.
Bring a friend, or come alone and leave with many.
There’s parking at LACMA, and plenty of street parking nearby.
There’s no RSVP anxiety. No chasing calendars.
Whoever comes, comes. And slowly, it becomes part of the rhythm of the week.
In a world that forgets how to gather, this is a small rebellion of softness, from a very soft man.
No pressure to come, but know that you are always invited.
🕯️ Next gathering: Friday, June 19th at 6:00 PM
🕯️ Every other Friday thereafter
