New York New Year Spotlight
Spotlight creates judgement-free spaces for people to have their moment in the spotlight, as their authentic selves.
COST: Sliding scale $10-30. Please pay when you register, venmo @spotcorpevents
You'll receive a prompt via text 24 hours before the event, and will have until the event the next day to craft your performance. A poem, song, dance, lip sync, play or musical, dress like a hippo and play the banjo -- literally whatever you want.
No spectators, if you attend you must participate! THIS IS AN 18+ EVENT!
Spotlight will be immediately followed by an optional cocktail hour, which will include dinner.
About Spotlight!:
Spotlight! was created during a time when people could not gather, could not release their feelings, and could not perform! Noticing this need, creator Jesse Pudles knew he needed to take action, so people all over the world would be able to share their stories and be heard, seen and valued. This practice of catharsis, laughter, and community provided a space for self expression and authenticity.
While Jesse saw the value in this virtual space, he did not yet understand its importance in the real world. While most performance spaces have an element of being judged, what makes Spotlight! unique is that everyone is taking the same risk. No one is judging you any more than they are judging themselves. With judgement taken out of the equation, performance stops being about skill and starts being about heart! With the world opening up, it's time to bring these events to a live space!
