Join us for the opening celebration of Hypertopographics, at Heft - an evening of drinks and provocations. This unparalleled body of work is a new visual concept and series developed through the collaborative work of world-renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky and generative AI artist Alkan Avcıoğlu. Burtynsky will be present alongside gallery director Adam Heft Berninger to welcome all in viewing ten extraordinary new unique (1/1) artworks in the gallery (sadly, visa restrictions prevent Avcıoğlu from attending). Combining leading generative craft with master printing technique, these awe-filled works pick up on the artists’ shared vision for the creation of beautifully terrifying embodiments of the destruction we are inflicting on this planet. Expanding upon and reinterpreting the influential New Topographics movement, this series investigates contemporary conditions of overwhelming industrial scale, technological complexity, and global interconnectedness. The work emerging from this collaboration embodies an innovative visual language that challenges traditional perceptions of landscape, inviting a profound reconsideration of environments shaped by relentless production, consumption. Representing a groundbreaking artistic dialogue, this collaboration stands as a pioneering intersection of photography and AI, marking a significant moment in contemporary art that’s riddled with questions about the role of Artificial Intelligence in art making and the future of creativity. This bold new series embraces the conversations around these topics, and we invite all to bring their curiosity and open minds to discuss the impact and authentic validity of works such as these.
