CASH ONLY ROUTE FILM CHALLENGE June 20, 2026 | New York City The Cash Only Route Film Challenge is a one day filmmaking competition taking place during the 2026 Cash Only Route. The challenge invites filmmakers, content creators, students, and visual storytellers to create a short film inspired by the route, the participating establishments, and the event's central theme: "Cash Only". Participants will follow the route through cash-only establishments in Manhattan and Brooklyn and create a complete short film from concept to final edit in a single day. Unique 1st Prize: $999 Cash (given in the same day) The winning film will be selected the same day by a jury of three members, whose names will be announced in the coming days. Every film must be: * Shot on June 20, 2026, after 11:30am. * Edited on June 20, 2026, after 11:30am. * Delivered on June 20, 2026, before 7pm. No footage shot before those hours on June 20 may be used in the competition. We dont mind the camera you use. The goal is to capture the spirit of the Cash Only Route through your own creative perspective. Documentary, fiction, experimental, comedy, music video, or hybrid formats are all welcome. Rules: - Maximum of 5 people per crew (including external actors). - You can use any assistant to the route, as far as they agree to collaborate. - Stage: the cash only route displayed in the poster. - Theme: Cash Only. - Maximum running time: 3 minutes (including credits). - All footage must be recorded on the indicated hours on June 20, 2026. No pre-recorded material is permitted. - Registration: write an email to landercamarero@gmail.com reminding us that you filled this questionary and that you are interested. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible. - Submission Deadline: you have to be registered as one of the ten film crews so write us an email before Thursday 18th at 6pm, and wait for our answer which will be in the same Thursday before midnight. - Delivery Format Final films must be delivered as a standard: MP4 file. Any resolution is accepted provided the file plays correctly. A google drive link will be provided to upload the final film. - Screening & Awards Selected entries will be screened during the Cash Only Route closing event, at 8pm. The winning film will be announced and awarded at approximately 9 PM on June 20, 2026. - Rights & Ownership Filmmakers retain full ownership of their films. Participants may distribute, exhibit, monetize, license, or otherwise exploit their work commercially without restriction. By participating, filmmakers grant the Cash Only Route Organization permission to screen and share the submitted film for promotional, cultural, archival, and educational purposes related to the event. The Cash Only Route Organization does not claim ownership of any submitted work and receives no commercial rights to the films. Who Can Participate? The challenge is open to anyone interested in filmmaking, storytelling, or visual creation. While it is primarily aimed at emerging and independent filmmakers, students, and creators between the ages of 20 and 40, participation is open to all adults. About the Cash Only Route The Cash Only Route is a community event that celebrates and supports cash-only establishments across New York City. Participants travel through a curated route of businesses in Manhattan and Brooklyn, highlighting direct person to person exchange, neighborhood culture, and the unique character of local establishments. The Film Challenge invites filmmakers to interpret that experience through cinema. One day. One city. One route. One film. Good luck.
