LOCATION CHANGE: we’ll be at our usual meeting space, at the Somerville ARMORY, on the 3rd floor due to the heat in the forecast for this Sunday afternoon. Looking for a space to explore your voice in a low-key, supportive and playful way? Join us for Queer Circle Singing on June 14th, 3:30-5pm! This time we will brave the great outdoors and meet at Nathan Tufts Park (850 Broadway, Somerville) to take advantage of the warm weather and try something new. We will likely be on the College Ave side, at the bottom of the hill, under the trees. LOGISTICS: We are counting on being able to use the bathroom at the Dunkin Donuts or other businesses nearby if need be. Please note: there won't be chairs, so you may wish to bring a picnic blanket or a folding chair to sit on. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and sunscreen (though we are going to scout out the shadiest spot we can). Also note: this is a public park, so it’s possible that we might attract an audience. We will discourage anyone watching from recording us, but we may not be able to fully prevent that from happening. Just something to be aware of if you’re a privacy-minded person! In case of rain or excessive heat, we will be back at SomArts at the Armory (191 Highland Ave, Somerville), on the 3rd floor. We will try to make the call two hours before start time. ABOUT CIRCLE SINGING: Circle singing is the process of creating original music through vocal improvisation, body percussion and movement, originally created by musician Bobby McFerrin in 1986. We will be doing a variety of vocal improv games and exercises as a whole group as well as in small groups to create new music together. Beginners are welcome – the best way to learn is by participating! This is a queer-led and queer-centered space, and we also welcome people who are questioning, and allies of LGBTQIA+ community who are open to learning. Suggested donation: $5-$20, no-one turned away for lack of funds. Accessibility: there is a wheelchair-accessible entrance to the park and paved sidewalks/paths, however we will likely meet on an uneven grassy area under the trees. We're open to figure out what works for everyone once we're there! COVID Protocols: – Masks optional – Please stay home if having symptoms or if have been exposed to someone sick recently – (If indoors) We’ll try to have a HEPA filter on site and have the windows open as well; weather permitting. Waitlist: if we meet outdoors -- feel free to show up either way -- no space limit! If we meet indoors and you're on the waiting list, you're welcome to come and see if there's a space available (sometimes people drop out last minute, so there's always a chance a spot might open up), however, we might have to (sadly) turn you away at the door if the space is full.
