CIGAW is ONE YEAR OLD 🥳🥳🥳🥳💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾Come celebrate the open mic that’s changing the culture of spoken word as we know it!! Can I Get a Witness? (CIGAW) is the first open mic of its kind, because after each poem we talk about it. We talk about what emotions came up, what resonates, and how our individual experiences relate to larger conditions. Some call it “poetic aftercare”, we call it a poetry witnessing circle. Here’s how it works: 🎤 open mic list with 8-10 poets. 🎤 Poets can share for up to 5mins. 🎤After each poem the room speaks back for 3-5mins. We have a few rules to keep the evening cute/supportive: 🚫 no Advice 🚫 no Scores 🚫 no Critiques ⭐️⭐️⭐️The goal is engage in meaningful conversation rooted in the themes found in the poets work—which typically hits different for each listener. During the event we provide “Ways We Witness”and “Optional Speaking Prompts” that keep the container supportive for both the performers and the audience.
