TL;DR professionalism is dead. this is the repass. long live the barter system and the dancefloors. sounds by: groovysince94 brayisme mixtape massey ciara dominique food by: flavors of east africa on saturday, october 18, local creatives, business owners and community members will gather at the block club for the first daygo archive event. this gathering is designed to use culture, art, and connection as a catalyst to reimagine networking and professional realms, break down barriers and challenge professionalism rooted in white supremacy, which has long shaped how people show up in business and communal spaces. daygo archive doubles down on the idea that success and safety do not equate to nor require proximity to whiteness; we get to choose how we show up and what belonging looks like. sometimes it looks like a party. you’ll actively participate in building a living “rolodex” of san diego creatives, entrepreneurs and service providers, while dancing, snacking, sipping & playing with other like-minded individuals to discover new opportunities, build memories and foster new relationships. unlike a business card swap, this rolodex leans on exchange- not just money, but barter, collaboration, and trade. think: design for photography, food for music, skills for skills. a system that values community wealth over capital. the rolodex we birth will live permanently at the block club as an installation and will also be available digitally, extending its reach beyond the event itself. beyond documentation, the event is a party. the evening will feature music, art, and spaces for authentic relationships, new and old. inside, you’ll find your fav DJ’s fav DJ’s, tattoos, art displays and installations. outside, you’ll be invited to a market of a variety of san diego-based businesses that are representative of our diverse community and partake in board and card games, a photo backdrop, and more. the goal is to strip the shame associated with leaning on our friends and neighbors and move beyond american capitalistic “networking and professionalism” by creating a safe and welcoming environment grounded in authenticity, community and intimacy the way we’ve always done it: through joy, dance, play and sharing food.
