🏕️ Overnight on Angel Island for the summer solstice + my 33rd birthday.
The longest day of the year — we take the 2:05 PM Golden Gate Ferry from the SF Ferry Building (Gate B), hike up to our group campsite above the historic Immigration Station, watch the sun set over the Bay around 8:35 PM, eat snacks, sleep on the ground, and ferry back to SF Monday morning. Up to 30 of us. Real campout, not a glamp.
📅 Sun Jun 21 → Mon Jun 22
🚢 SF Ferry Building, Gate B · 2:05 PM departure
📍 North Garrison Group Camp, Angel Island
──── KEY THINGS TO KNOW ────
🚶 Getting there
~0.8 mi uphill walk from the ferry dock to camp (~20 min with gear). Bikes & wagons welcome — bring a folding wagon if you have one.
🧥 Weather
June is statistically the windiest month on the island. Days 60s–70s, nights drop to the low 50s, fog rolls in fast. Bring more warmth than you think.
🎒 What to pack
Tent (extra stakes!), warm sleeping bag (40°F+), windbreaker, beanie, headlamp, camp stove or charcoal. No wood fires allowed.
🏕️ At camp
Picnic tables, food lockers, potable water, pit toilets, charcoal BBQ. No dogs, no swimming.
🦝 Raccoons
Bold and organized. Lock ALL food + scented items (sunscreen, toothpaste) in the food lockers. Never in tents.
🔄 Getting back Monday
First ferry off the island arrives SF at 10:40 AM (good if you have meetings). Second one gets in at 12:20 PM.
