On the occasion of the Berlin Art Week “Crafting Community” exhibition, this unique children’s workshop offers an intimate tour of Ukrainian designer Victoria Yakusha’s uplifting Land of Light installation, as well as a hands-on clay making activity, led by the award-winning designer herself.
The installation, initially designed in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, comprises large scale, folkloric animal sculptures conceived as comforting guides. The work invites us all to consider: How can imagination and making help us navigate challenging moments in our daily lives?
Following the brief tour, kids will get their hands dirty making their own fantastical, comforting creature to bring home! What kind of creature might offer one care? Protection? Good advice? A laugh? Maybe even good dreams? Let your imagination run wild, then work with air-drying clay and other materials to create a special sculpture all your own.
