Hello! At this gathering we will explore how we talk about bodies, sexuality and perception. We will inquire into how the birds and bees can actually help us and our children learn about identity, pleasure and healing. This is an invitation to all those who identify as caregivers- parents, teachers, nannies, healers, therapists, medical professionals, and more- all those who care for how humanity learns what our bodies are and what they are for. This gathering is a part of Jote’s project, Our Anatomy, an art and research project studying human anatomy and potential from a systemic, animistic perspective. Jote will share a bit of their studies with the Andean and Amazonian elders and the watercolor anatomical art that has emerged from interviews and research gathering in the US and Europe. Then we will open to group dialog and questions about what is most important to the group. The elders say that when we learn about pleasure directly from the elements that we have the possibility to learn what pleasure really is and what it is for. Learn more about Our Anatomy https://ouranatomy.earth Our Anatomy’s art and research revolves around group inquiry at Participatory Action Research gatherings where we engage with evolving anatomical art and storytelling that maps our bodies, our consciousness and our relationship with the earthbody. Our Anatomy began in an effort to create better anatomical images for nurses to share with patients. In modern scientific and medical contexts the concept of “the body” has led anatomical art to be intentionally anonymous- simplifying “the body” as a site for scientific phenomena. The attempt to make “anonymous”, “neutral” images largely focuses on white bodies, favoring male bodies, which leaves the global majority of femme, brown and indigenous bodies and stories underrepresented in modern anatomical art. The research team at Our Anatomy is taking it personally and challenging these norms. We are painting the real colors and shapes of our bodies contextualized by a personal story from the models, who are part of the research team. These images and stories will culminate in a Planetary Anatomy deck of cards and book of stories that go with each image. So come on down and share your stories, questions, struggles and successes talking about your body and sexuality. Community dialog into what is most important influences Our Anatomy’s research and what will be included in the Planetary Anatomy Deck.
