What's Open Rehearsal?
A new way to connect, discover and create.
There's a new space in Merrick that is looking to host artists and feature them on their Sessions series. The Cleaners is a dry cleaners... that's also clothing store, art gallery and speakeasy inspired venue.
I want to introduce you into this space because it's been a very cool space to work in and I think you could benefit from the space as well!
This is what the evening will look like:
My bandmates, Pat Lehosky (percussionist) and Ryan Slavin (bassist) are coming in to meet me for a rehearsal. We plan on shedding tunes in our rep list, but we don't have a trio gig coming up for another couple of weeks.
Rehearsals are not only an important part of producing a show, it's a great way to develop deeper bonds with the people you are working with. Especially when there's no pressure to be locked in for an upcoming gig (like one and the same week or the next night... those rehearsals can be stressful!!!)
So since the pressure is off for us this week, and we have the space... I've invited some artists/creatives to join us for the evening with the intentions of sharing tunes, jamming on songs new and old, and more importantly to enjoy one another's company and gifts.
I want you to come and play, bring your instrument, your bandmates, your friends, your notebook, an open mind.. come show us what you've been working on and meet the Cleaners' team. They are eager to work with you and film a feature of your original work too!
If you're unsure about playing but might be interested to check it out, come anyway and feel free to jump in! I have a feeling it's not going to get too hectic/crowded.
I'm really new to this whole thing but I'm hoping this can be a fresh and nourishing experience for all of us.. If nobody decides to come, we'll rehearse anyway... But if you're game, then I think we can make this a really fun night.
The idea would be that we take turns up on stage. Each of us taking turns leading/shedding through 2-3 songs... Maybe we all jam on some tunes... maybe we sing some karaoke or talk about our lives and get to know each other a bit... I don't know, just spitballing some ideas.
