People in XR : Omer Shapira @NVIDIA

"People in XR" is a series where we invite industry experts for honest conversations about the state of spatial computing, the role of generative AI in XR, and its future. About the talk: Are We There Yet? (We Were Promised Prosthetic Vision) Few technical fields are as polarizing as Extended Reality (XR). Since it’s resurgence 12 years ago, it has driven wild innovation in Microprocessors, Displays, Optics, Cameras, Game Engine technology and Computer Vision to name a few - and in spite of being very much real and present, is still perceived as ‘not ready’. What does ‘ready’ mean? Will we ever be able to be telepresent, go to work or find love entirely inside VR? Is that even the goalpost? (spoiler: no) Which company will get there, if anyone - and what will it take?  This talk will look at important moments in XR Technology and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), share lessons from past innovations, and highlight future opportunities for engineers, designers, and researchers aiming to make a significant impact. About Omer: As an Engineer at NVIDIA Research, Omer works on AI-Mediated Interaction Technology research (and an Artist when no one’s looking). Since 2016, he has contributed to NVIDIA's Simulation Technology group, leading the Omniverse XR group and contributing to IsaacSim, DriveSim, and NVIDIA's core XR technology and research. He has contributed pivotal research and product work in Computer Graphics, Virtual and Extended Reality (XR), Human-Computer Interaction, and Haptics. Prior to NVIDIA, Omer held engineering and leadership positions at Framestore and Fake Love (acquired by The New York Times in 2016), and creative and technical roles at Channel 10 Television in Israel. Hosted By: Big Red XR is a cross-disciplinary Cornell Tech student club bridging XR and real-world applications while supporting student founders and creators.
