On Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 7:30 PM, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall will host the world premiere of a Naumburg-commissioned work by UC San Diego’s very own Professor Lei Liang, performed by cellist Leland Ko. Professor Lei Liang is a renowned Chinese-American composer, scholar, and educator, known for bridging cultural heritage with technology and science in his award-winning music, including the Grawemeyer Award and a Pulitzer Prize finalist nomination. A Chancellor's Distinguished Professor at UC San Diego, he is celebrated for works exploring themes from cultural identity to environmental awareness, earning accolades like the Rome Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and significant commissions from major ensembles like the New York Philharmonic. This promises to be a remarkable evening of new music, and a rare chance for alumni to experience something fresh and groundbreaking in a world-class venue. Tickets holders will have a chance to meet Professor Liang at the pre show talkback at 7pm in a casual setting with a cash bar at The Jacobs Room , Carnegie Hall (just behind the recital doors). Reception to follow.
