While often used to describe excessive, AI-generated, engagement-optimized media, slop is increasingly becoming a dominant condition of contemporary culture. Epistemologies of Slop is an exhibition exploring how meaning, trust, and culture are produced under conditions of algorithmic excess. Bringing together artists, technologists, designers, researchers, and system-builders, the exhibition investigates how truth, culture, and meaning are made in the age of AI-generated media. The exhibition approaches slop not only as an aesthetic, but as a social, technical, economic, and psychological condition. Some works critique slop. Others embrace it, aestheticize it, weaponize it, surrender to it, or reveal the strange new forms of culture emerging from within it. Through installations, performances, sculptures, interfaces, and experiments, Epistemologies of Slop asks: - What is slop? - How do we recognize truth signal or beauty in probabilistic environments? - What does slopulence make possible? - How does labor survive slopulism? - Can a sloptimist be saved? - Who benefits in the slopocene? - What comes after slop? - Is slop art? Epistemologies of Slop invites you to inhabit the uncertainties of our media futures and consider how knowledge, culture, and collective reality evolves in a world increasingly shaped by machines. — tiat is the intersection of art and technology! we are a 501c3 nonprofit creating places for creative technologists to experiment, exhibit, and expand their practice. ⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ Learn more about tiat: https://tiat.place/ Kindly consider a donation to the space.
