Most people don’t actually have opinions. They have inherited positions, reiterated posts, or self-help platitudes disguised as insight. This event is for the people who do. Each time, participants share one genuine, considered opinion they hold - something they’ve actually thought through, tested, or arrived at through real experience. Something they actually believe and can defend. After each share, everyone positions themselves on a spectrum from “fully disagree” to “fully agree.” Then we have structured discourse: both sides get uninterrupted time to articulate their reasoning. The goal isn’t to win or be right - it’s to test ideas against other sharp minds and practice treating ideas as separate from the people who hold them. What makes a strong opinion: ∙ Specific and defensible (not vague worldview statements) ∙ Something you’ve actually thought through (not just absorbed from your feed) ∙ Grounded in reality (not pure philosophical abstraction) ∙ You’re genuinely open to rigorous challenge What doesn’t: ∙ Generic contrarianism for shock value or smart sounding ideas without substance ∙ Personal grievances dressed up as insights ∙ Repackaged content creator talking points ∙ Anything you’d be uncomfortable defending/discussing/debating Format: ∙ 2-3 min share per person ∙ Spectrum positioning ∙ 7-8 min moderated discourse with 1-min uninterrupted speaking time per argument To participate: Submit a brief description of your opinion in advance. Just having to write it down will tell you if it’s actually yours. This event is for you if you want to sharpen your thinking against other people doing the same. Please text/call 929-604-9192 upon your arrival. We will have a 15min arrival window. Please plan to arrive within that timeframe as we cannot accommodate latecomers.
