Agenda for Saturday 11/2: 6:00 ~ doors open, set up + settling in 6:30 ~ death meditation** promptly begins (doors closed during this time) 6:55 ~ doors open again 7:00 ~ altar building commences, guided by Irlanda 8:30 ~ take down, clean up 9:00 ~ doors close Bring anything that your heart desires! Suggested materials to bring: photos of loved ones that have transitioned, cloths, candles, flowers, food for altar/ofrendas AND for the living! We will provide fabric, boxes and electric candles. The idea is to collectively create a container to build individual altars/ofrendas; folks are invited to re-create their altar in their homes if that aligns. **Please note that doors close before and will remain closed during the death meditation. Folks (with or with out children) have the option of opting out of the death meditation and instead show up at 7 pm for the altar building portion. Thanks to folks at Queering Albuquerque, this space will feature the Altar Comunitario Para Una Palestiana Libre, an altar space for Palestinian ancestors! Accessibility Asks: We kindly ask all who plan to attend to wear a mask that is well fitted and high quality! We will have air purifiers and some masks / rapid COVID tests available. Death Meditation is an ancient Buddhist practice that invites us to shine the light of death onto our lives. Contemplating death is a counter culture act that “encourages us to face death while we are alive.” This practice may instill a sense of lightness, clarity and courage. By engaging in a death meditation on Día de Lxs Muertxs, we get the opportunity to look closely at the ideas we have about death, living, dying, sickness, and ancestry. The invitation is to explore this topic on your own before attending the meditation.
