Return to Origin- Shuv LaMakor
A High Holiday Ritual for Collective Healing
Well being is not an individual responsibility.
We are living through profound change, grief, uncertainty and disconnection. Yet our culture often teaches us to meet these challenges as individuals: my trauma, my healing, my journey.
But humans have never healed alone.
For millennia, we have gathered to grieve, celebrate, mark transitions and remember our place within the larger web of life. The calendar of the seasons, of the holidays, holds us in that web and reminds us when to gather, and for what purpose.
This season of teshuva is a time to return, to pause, reflect, and realign—with ourselves, with one another, and with the natural rhythms that sustain us.
In a culture pulling us toward isolation and individuality, returning to what we share is a radical act.
Because everything happens in relationship.
Every breath is a collaboration with the sky. Every bite of food renews our relationship with the earth. Each of our steps is the continuation of the paths of those who walked before us.
We belong to something larger than ourselves.
In this evening of ritual, we will return to that belonging. We will sing, breathe and pray together, making space for our collective grief alongside our shared joy.
We are the web of life.
We are the body of the universe.
